Synopsis
From the Academy Award-winning creators of Toy Story and Finding Nemo, comes
this hilarious animated adventure about a team of superheroes.
Bob Parr was once known as Mr Incredible, the world's greatest superhero.
Fifteen years later, Bob and his wife, Helen (Formerly Elastigirl), have adopted
civillian identities and retreated to the suburbs to lead "normal
lives" with their three children. Now Bob's a clock-punching insurance
claims adjuster fighting boredom and an ever-bulging waistline. However, Bob is
thrown back into the world of super-heroism when he receives a mysterious
communication summoning him to a remote island for a top-secret mission.
Yet again, Pixar continue their trend for making ground-breaking animated films, stretching the boundries laid down by their previous movies.
The Incredibles Review
Ever wondered happens to superheroes once they hang up their capes and try and live an everyday life on civvy street? Well this awesome animated adventure from those clever folks at Pixar gives an insight into the Parr family and their struggle to adapt. You see Bob Parr used to be Mr. Incredible - a hugely popular superhero whose rescuing days were cut short after a series of lawsuits issued against his kind forced the government to instigate the Superhero Relocation Programme and give Bob and his peers civilian identities. Bored by his work and desperately missing the old days, Bob's flattered when he gets a mysterious phone call which could see him back in action but it turns out this job is more likely to leave him and his family in mortal danger.
After the success of Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc., Pixar faced the unenviable task of trying to better each previous effort and the good news is that The Incredibles doesn't disappoint; packed full of action, great gags and well fleshed out characters, this is yet another utter triumph. Highlights are undoubtedly the petite yet fierce costume designer Edna Mode (voiced by director Brad Bird) and Samuel L. Jackson's cool-dude hero Frozone but it's the Incredible family who rightly take centre stage. Also comprising of Bob's wife Helen (Holly Hunter) - previously known as Elastigirl - and three children, shy Violet, excitable Dash and baby Jack Jack, this unit is as chaotic as any other family but with the added complication of super powers that can be used against each other during spats at the dinner table.
This is also the first Pixar project that has focused on human subjects but chances are that it won't be the last as the comic book styling is as impressive, if not more so, than anything the studio has previously achieved when fish or toys were their main criteria. Expect Oscar glory come next March.
