Synopsis

Declaration of Independence, We The People, The Bill of Rights

An inspiring look at the most important documents in American history, and the events and men that were integral in their drafting and ratification.

The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights became the foundation and framework for the creation of the country, and inspired nations and generations thereafter to realize that a truly noble government can be created "of the people, by the people, for the people."

July 4, 1776 marks the day that forever changed the direction of American history. On that day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, delegates of the Second Continental Congress declared that the thirteen British colonies were a free nation by signing the Declaration of Independence.

Over ten tumultuous years later, on May 25th, 1787, a convention began in Philadelphia. In the months that followed, the delegates to the convention, at times raucous and belligerent, yet always focused and purposeful, would produce and ratify one of the most important documents in human history: the Constitution of the United States and the subsequent Bill of Rights, the cornerstone of our nation's civil liberties and freedom.

This framework for democracy has become the shining vision of freedom the world over.
