Scary Movie 3 Review

Let's be honest: reviewing "Scary Movie 3" is a pretty futile exercise. By the time any movie franchise reaches its third instalment you cinemagoers have already decided whether it's for you or not. As with the first two horror spoofs of the series, the plot is all but irrelevant, as the film's funniest moments come at the expense of other recent movies, with pot shots taken at such recent hits as "The Ring," "Signs," "The Matrix Reloaded" and "8 Mile." However things are a little different this time round as the Wayan brothers - who between them wrote, directed and starred in the first two flicks - are no longer involved, and the undoubtedly talented "Airplane" and "Naked Gun" director David Zucker is now in charge behind the camera.

So together with the obligatory familiar faces from the earlier films, there are also welcome appearances from Zucker veterans Leslie Nielsen (as a typically inept US President) and Charlie Sheen (as the not too bright farmer with mysterious crop circles scattered across his land), along with cameos from the likes of Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy. To be honest "Scary Movie 3" is unlikely to join your list of top ten funniest movies and many of its gags fail to raise a smile. However the sheer volume of jokes on offer - many of them in truly astounding bad taste - mean that you will find yourself laughing out loud enough times during the film's meagre eighty four minutes to ensure you won't feel short changed.
