Synopsis

Toni Collette, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Eric Bana and Barry Humphries provide the voice talents for this darkly , Australian, claymation-animated feature charting the 20-year correspondence of two extremely unlikely pen pals. When their epistolary alliance begins, Mary Dinkle is an eight-year-old girl living in the suburbs of Melbourne with her alcoholic mother and inattentive father, while Max Horowitz is an obese 40-something Jewish New Yorker prone to panic attacks. The only thing the two have in common is their friendlessness and profound sense of alienation. Spanning two continents and two decades, their extraordinary friendship helps them both through life's highs and lows as they grapple with the everyday troubles of modern existence.
