Synopsis
Set in London during the swinging sixties. Three street wise sisters turn into criminals to escape their poverty stricken existence.
Honest Review
Are you really that desperate to see Nicole and Natalie's wobbly bits? That's the question you need to ask yourself before you even begin to consider thinking about going to see this celluloid embarrassment, which should put paid to any thoughts the All Saints gals had of a screen career should their day-jobs as groovy pop personages go on the slide. Mind you, it looks like a bit of a career-ending affair all-round.
David A Stewart, hitherto known as the gristly half of The Eurythmics, will hopefully never be let near a movie camera again, after the self-indulgence he allows himself in this pitiful excuse for a Sixties crime-caper, with Nicole, Nat and Mel as cross-dressing petty thieves who get themselves mixed up with a scary East End Mr Big (Corin Redgrave, who should know better) and the faaar-out world of Carnaby Street trendies. Jonathan Cake gives the worst performance of this year or any other as the aristocratic druggie editor of alternative magazine Zero; you really do feel for Scots character actor James Cosmo ("Braveheart," etc) as he plods through the most cringe making dialogue as the girls, old dad; while new discovery Peter Farcinelli, the passing American law student who falls hard for our Nicole, should swiftly be put back in his box and sent back whence he came.
Will any of these people work again? Lets hope not. That said, the hugely awful performances by all the other actors in the film do put the All Saints' lasses bland innocuousness into context, its just that the movie's so ineptly written the best cast in the universe couldn't save it. And having a pop person at the helm you'd think that at least they'd get the music references right. But no! Suzi Quattro albums on view in a film set in 1968? A poster on the wall for The Beatles "Abbey Road" a full year before it came out? Aaaaargh!!!
