Bad Boys II Review

"Bad Boys 2" reunites stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in a tale that also marks the return of producer-director team Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay. Since the Bad Boys' explosive debut in 1995 the awesome pairing of Bruckheimer and Bay have been responsible for blockbusters "The Rock," "Armageddon" and "Pearl Harbor," so even if you never saw the original "Bad Boys" I'm sure you can figure out just what to expect from this, the last of this summer's big budget blockbusting sequels. Smith and Lawrence return as the best drug busting cops of Miami who this time round find themselves up against yet another Cuban drug baron who seems determined to swamp their city with bargain ecstasy.

And so the spectacular action begins from an initial gun battle with the Klu Klux Klan in the Florida swamps, to the most spectacular car chase of the summer and finally to a somewhat bizarre climax that involves a furtive incursion in Cuba. Along the way the two former TV funnymen bring some genuine laughs in the midst of the carnage, all of which looks as dynamic and fast moving as you'd expect. And although the movie is a little overlong at two and a half hours and perhaps a little too excessive for those of a fragile disposition, it nevertheless delivers exactly what you want from a big, dumb and thoroughly enjoyable Saturday night movie!
